Pepper Steak

A simple dish with a short ingredient list. Slicing the steak thin means it can be cooked quite quickly. Served over a bit of rice with some garlic bread on the side, it makes a satisfying meal.

Pepper Steak

Ingredients

  • 600-700g steak1
  • 1 tsp. coarse sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp. black peppercorns, ground
  • 1 Tbsp. canola (or other neutral) oil
  • 1 onion, sliced (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • 2 red bell peppers, sliced
  • 1/2 tsp. red chili flakes

Directions

  1. Slice steak thin and toss with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  2. Heat oil over medium heat.
  3. Add onion, if using, and cook for 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add garlic, if using, and cook for another minute or two.
  5. Add bell peppers and chili flakes and cook for a few more minutes.
  6. Add steak and cook until just done. I should only take a couple minutes.
  7. Serve over rice or in a sandwich.

1 I used a combination of tenderloin and eye of round. The exact cut isn't terribly important. Just be sure to choose something that isn't too tough. Back
