Steak and Asparagus Dinner

Steak and asparagus is great. It's relatively quick and easy to cook. Simple. Delicious. Great combination of flavours. But it's not quite a complete meal on its own.

This is simple enough to address by adding an additional side dish. Mashed potatoes would be a classic choice here in Terra. But they Tyrians have a different answer: eggplant. To make this a complete meal in and of itself, they add a simple eggplant sauté to the plate and then drizzle the whole thing with snow truffle oil just to bring it all together and make it extra special.

Obviously Tyrian snow truffles are somewhat hard to come by in these parts, so instead I recommend seeking out a white truffle infused oil. This comes pretty close to the flavour of snow truffles. And, while it's a bit dear, it is at least possible to get here. And it doesn't take much. Just a teaspoon or so. Which allows you to save the rest of the bottle for another use.

While there's certainly nothing wrong with a basic plate of steak and asparagus (in fact, I'm a big fan), I do highly recommed giving this upgraded version a try if you get the chance!

  1. Sauté your eggplant as directed. (I recommend doing the plain version, without sesame or soy, for this particular use.)
  2. Cook your steak and asparagus to desired doneness.
  3. Plate everything up, drizzle with the truffle oil, and serve. (Adding a pan sauce if desired.)
