Sugar Cookies

These cookies are a Wintersday favourite! Especially in the Maguuma jungle where the vanilla beans needed to make them are plentiful.

Sugar Cookies
cookie dough
1 vanilla bean
powdered sugar (optional)

These cookies can be made by working vanilla into an existing ball of cookie dough. That said, my preference is to start from scratch with sugar cookies in mind since it's easier to work the vanilla in before the flour has been added.

Prepare the cookie dough up to be point of adding the flour. Slice open a vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape it out. Stir the vanilla paste/seeds into the butter-sugar-egg mixture. Stir in the flour as you normally would. These can be made as drop cookies or rolled out. If you're planning on rolling them out you may want to add a little more flour to make a slightly stiffer dough.
Traditionally these are rolled out and cut into squares for Wintersday.
Grease a baking sheet and place the cookies on it. Bake at 350F for 12-15 minutes.
When the cookies come out of the oven, dust with powdered sugar for a snowy, festive look!

Pro tip: Save the empty vanilla pod and toss it into your sugar jar for deliciously vanilla-flavoured sugar!
