Avocado Smoothie

This recipe is another example of cultural exchange between Tyria and Terra. As far as I can tell, the recipe originated in Vietnam as sinh tố bơ. There, the smoothie is made with avocados, milk, sweetened condensed milk, ice, and (usually) just a touch of lime zest.

Tyria has gone a somewhat different direction with it. This particular recipe was brought back to Tyria by Charr explorers. And while they kept the basic idea, they changed some of the details. Most notably: the milk was swapped out for coconut milk and the sweetened condensed milk was omitted altogether. The lime zest also appears to have gotten lost somewhere along the way.

At first glance this may seem like a strange set of changes to implement, but it begins to make a lot more sense once you understand a bit more about Charr biology. Although Charr are carnivores, they do occasionally eat fruits and vegetables (grains are less commonly ingested, but not unheard of). However, most Charr are lactose intolerant, thus the swap of dairy milk for coconut milk. Normally I would expect the sweetened condensed milk to be replaced with sugar or honey. Except Charr, being felines, cannot taste sugar, so omitting the sweetener would make little to no difference to their taste buds while also eliminating another source of lactose.

Understandably, this version of the Terran treat never really caught on outside of Charr communities. I've adapted it here by putting the sweetened condensed milk back in. (But I've kept the coconut milk as a nod to its Tyrian influence.)
