Blackberry Pear Compote

While compotes can be eaten as a dessert in their own right, they are especially good as a sauce or garnish to dress up other desserts. I like to serve them over ice cream, yogurt, or cakes.

I made my compote with three pears and just a handfull of blackberries because that's what I had on hand. Personally though, I prefer a slightly higher ratio of blackberries to pears. I've given a range for both ingredients. Adjust it as you see fit or based on what you have available.

Blackberry Pear Compote

Ingredients

  • 2-3 pears, preferably Anjou or Bartletts
  • 170-350g blackberries
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. water

Directions

  1. Peel, core, and slice the pears.
  2. Add the pears, blackberries, sugar, and water to a small pot and bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer until fruit softens.
  4. Serve warm or cold, alone or as a topping to another desset.
