Spiced Mashed Yams
I like mashed yams just fine. But I must admit, that I prefer something a little more punchy flavour-wise. This slightly amped up version of mashed yams brings a bit more interest to the palate. (Although I sometimes take it a step further and add some green onion and cilantro as well. But ginger and garlic is certianly a good start!)
Spiced Mashed Yams
Ingredients
- 1 bowl of Mashed Yams
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. freshly grated ginger
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 tsp. black peppercorns, ground
- 1/4 tsp. coarse sea salt, ground
Directions
- For the quick and easy method of doing this: Make your mashed yams as usual (boiling, then mashing with cream and butter) and then just stir in all of the remaining ingredients.
- For the slightly less quick and easy (but more delicious) method: Boil your sweet potatoes and, while they're cooking, melt the butter over medium heat and add the garlic and ginger to it. Cook for about 10 minutes, then add to your drained mashed sweet potatoes along with the salt, pepper, and cream.
